"My first memory is of light. Architecture alters space and shapes light, creating intersections between the artificial and the natural. I love how a window can frame the sky - a view - like a painting. And the painting is always shifting.
Elevations are places of refuge. Seeking high ground in a flood is a survival instinct for the body and spirit. Elevations also are diagrams of facades of buildings. A single line can separate the sky - the infinite - from a finite structure.
I am drawn to the language of light, reinterpreting its movement through space on two dimensions. I want to express physical phenomena not as they are but as they could be, through the filters of sight, memory and process.
'Light dos not stay,' Tennessee Williams wrote. When it returns, it has changed, and so have we."

The Fourth of July is almost here, and that means it's time to party at The Neidhammer! Our Fourth of July Celebration from 11 am until 4 pm at The Neidhammer will include live music by Through Being Cool, a wine and beer garden, games, food trucks, face painting, a bounce house, and best of all...a pie baking contest.
Do you think you make the best pie in Indy? Enter our contest!
- Pie must be entered in the name of the person who made it.
- This contest is intended for ages 8 and up, amateur bakers only. Professional bakers or those who earn a portion of their livelihood from baking or cooking may not enter the contest.
- Each dessert pie must be made from scratch and based in a disposable 9" pie plate/pan. Each pie must include a disposable serving utensil and a cover. You may not use pie filling or pre-made store-bought crust.
- Categories are (a) Kids ages 8-17, and (b) Adults ages 18 and up.
- To enter your pie, bring your pie to the 3rd floor of the Hamilton Theater of the Neidhammer at 2102 East Washington Street between 11:30 am - 1:30 pm on the day of the pie baking contest. The staff running the pie baking contest will have the final say on acceptability of pies. Pies must be in an appropriate covered disposable container with a disposable serving utensil until judging.
- The Health Department says no pies that require refrigeration (ie dairy or cream pies).
- Only one entry per person per category.
- Judging will be be from 1:30 pm - 2 pm.
- There will be a minimum of three judges.
- Criteria includes overall appearance, crust color/texture/doneness/flavor, filling consistency/doneness/flavor, and overall taste.
- Each judge assigns a numerical value (1-5) in each criteria category without consultation with the other judges.
- The pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner in that category.
- In the case of a tie, the judges will judge those pies again.
- The decision of the judges is final. Judges will not know contestant names.
Winners will be announced after judging around 3 pm. Participants have to be present during the contest and judging. All pies become property of The Neidhammer after the finish of the contest. For more information, call Elli at 317.402.0786.
To register, fill out the following form and bring a copy the day of the contest. If you are a winner, you give your permission to have your photo taken during or after the announcement ceremony and have it used for Pie Contest promotional materials, including The Neidhammer website and associated social media pages. A copy of your pie recipe with a list of ingredients must be provided on a 3x5" card, with the recipe name, contestant name, and phone number at the time of the pie drop off.
If you've visit The Neidhammer Coffee Shop, chances are you've noticed the antique scales around the room. Have you ever wondered the story behind those scales?
Meet Rick Collins, our curator of vintage scales. Rick is a carpenter by trade, and also has five oils in limited edition publication. He was represented by the Saxon Mountain Gallery in Georgetown, Colorado for several years when he used to paint full-time. We also have featured his oil paintings here at The Neidhammer!
Rick has been restoring scales for about three years, after he first purchased a few that captured his attention.
"Finding the scales is the most difficult task," said Rick. "I search out the internet, antique stores, and thrift shops. The scales are bead blasted to remove old paint and rust, and then either primed and painted or nickel-plated, polished, and calibrated to function correctly."
Rick told us that the typical scale takes about five days to complete. And the scales at The Neidhammer only scratch the surface of his capabilities.
You can come see his work in our Coffee Shop, and if one catches your eye you can even buy it from us!
Eloping can be the perfect way to say "I do" in an intimate and romantic setting. We were so happy to have Lindley and Zeke at The Neidhammer on March 31st for their elopement, which also happens to be Lindley's granparents' anniversary.
"The Neidhammer was the perfect venue for our elopement," said Lindley. "I fell in love with the space the minute I walked in. It has the right touch of elegant, rustic charm! The natural lighting in the space made for fabulous photos. To top it off, our event coordinator, Beth, was absolutely amazing. She was so quick to respond and helped make our day seamless. She made our elopement feel just as important as a larger wedding event. I’m so happy I found this venue for our big day!"

On Thursday, February 8th, we hosted our third Beyond Beautiful Bridal Show at The Neidhammer!
Over 75 brides-to-be joined us on the second and third floors of The Neidhammer to meet a variety of wedding vendors, get pampered, enjoy tasty treats and drinks, hop into our photo booth, take a spin in a limo, relax with a chair massage and learn more about The Neidhammer. BONUS: brides that booked their wedding the night of the show even received $200 off their wedding package, AND we gave away a free photo booth, AND one lucky winner won a $1,000 Nameless Catering gift card (congratulations Calista Billingsley)!

Congratulations – you’re engaged! It’s an exciting time in your life, start by simply enjoying the moment. Share a picture on Instagram, tell your family and friends, and celebrate with a glass a champagne! Once you’re ready to start planning, here is a list of some important steps you should take to get ready for your big day.
Set a Date. You don’t have to set an exact date but think about when you want to get married. Have you always dreamed of a winter wedding? Or is your heart set on a warm, summer day? You’ll want to have an idea of the time frame for your wedding before you start the hunt for a venue.
Find Inspiration. Websites like Pinterest are great for creating a board of inspiration. You can find examples of everything from the cake to decorations to your dress. It’s helpful to have pictures and ideas ready for when you meet with your wedding vendors.
Set a Budget. Not only should you set a budget but stick to it! Talk with your fiancé about what your priorities are for your wedding day. Which elements are the most important to you? This is a good time to figure out what you need to save and if anyone else will be contributing to paying for your wedding. While this isn’t the most fun step in wedding planning, it’s one of the most important.
Make a Guest List. Are you planning on a small, medium, or large wedding? Sometimes deciding who will be invited can be stressful, so start with an A and B list. You don’t have to invite everyone you’ve ever met. Think about it this way: can you see yourself hanging out with them two years down the road? If the answer is yes, put them on your A list! If you’re keeping your wedding small, invite your close family and friends, and don’t feel bad about not giving your guests a plus one.
Choose a Venue. Now that you know approximately how many people you are inviting, your budget, and your desired time of year, it’s time to start looking at venues. What kind of vibe do you want for your wedding? Is there a certain area of town you want to stick to? What dates are available? Take tours, take photos, and take notes. Feel out the staff as well. Do they make you feel welcome and part of the family? This is one of the things we pride ourselves in at The Neidhammer!
Find a Dress. Check out bridal boutiques in your area and look for trunk shows. You’ll get your first pick of new dresses, usually at a trunk show discount. While you might have a certain style in mind, try on lots of different options to find your dream dress. You never know which one will end up being the best fit!
Build a wedding website. Keep your guests informed with a wedding website! Websites like The Knot and Appy Couple have easy templates you can use to build a wedding website. You can add info about your bridal party, hotel accommodations, your wedding schedule, your love story, and more. It’s a fun and easy way to keep everyone up-to-date with your plans!
Have Fun! Don’t forget to have fun, this is a once-in-a-lifetime event that celebrates your love. Enjoy this time with your fiancé, family, and friends. Take time to be together as a couple and be thankful that you have one another in your lives!
